Our Impact

KC Girls Prep was ranked 4th out of the 555 Missouri public schools in terms of growth.

Our students outperformed 57% of their peers nationwide in reading growth and 70% of their peers in math growth.

Girls Prep focuses on ensuring students become leaders for real change.

KC Girls Prep is an affiliate of the Young Women’s Leadership Network (TYWLS), a national network of all-girls schools founded in 1996. With over a dozen partner schools across the country, the Network has provided college access for thousands of young women from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. Nationally, only 26% percent of students from low income neighborhoods earn college degrees, but TYWLS alumni enroll in college at twice the rate of their peers and are four times more likely to attain a four-year degree.

These graduates not only earn their degrees but also return to their communities, inspiring current students and creating a ripple effect of positive change. KC Girls Prep aims to replicate this cycle, empowering its alumni to return to Kansas City and drive meaningful change in their communities.

Our Growth

Four out of five of our students enter with below-grade-level reading and math skills, with Missouri Assessment Program scores showing they are behind 70% of students in the city in English Language Arts and 80% in math. Our high-growth model focuses on building strong academic foundations, ensuring that students are at or above grade level by the end of eighth grade.

During the 2021-2022 school year, KC Girls Prep scholars outperformed 57% of their peers nationwide in reading growth and 70% in math growth. This progress continued in the 2022-2023 school year, with KC Girls Prep achieving its most notable milestone yet: ranking 4th out of 555 public schools in Missouri for academic growth in the 2022-2023 school year.

Our high-growth model demonstrates that with a quality education and strong social-emotional support, our scholars are not only eager to learn but can achieve significant academic success.

Life expectancy on either side of Troost Avenue varies from lower-income to higher income zip codes by 8-14 years.

KC Girls Prep is here to expand opportunities where most needed.

The past four years have been tumultuous for low-income, urban public schools nationwide. Many continue to suffer stagnating and even backsliding results, but KC Girls Prep intends to close that gap. We go beyond our educational curriculum to serve the social and emotional needs of our students and families. We ensured that our scholars and their siblings were fed throughout the pandemic. Our social worker and school counselor have spent hundreds of hours connecting families with the services they need. We continue to focus on the “whole” girl and we believe this combination of heart and mind is one of the defining features of our school.
